  • 2:08 Taskale

The cave houses of Taskale were originally used by Christians seeking to escape persecution. Later the Turks used them to escape the Mongols--today they are used by the villagers for grain storage. The caves are accessed through staircases cut inside the rock. I found this village purely by accident--one of the most astounding surprises I've ever had.

  • 00:32 Agora at Sagalassos

When archaeologists excavated the site of ancient Sagalassos they discovered two large fountains. In spite of the fact that they had been buried for 2,000 years, when uncovered and cleaned, the fountains began to flow again. They flow 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, just as they did in ancient times!

  • 3:16 Beautiful Alahan Monastery

Alahan had a large community of monks who lived and died in isolation at a remote site high atop a mountain. These monk built beautiful churches on their mountain top while they themselves lived in caves. When important men in their community died, they carved tombs for them from stone. I investigated a few of these cave tombs.
